Living in the Landscape
Being out in the open air with space all around you is certainly a wonderful experience, but living under canvas, even if only for a short time, adds a special touch of magic and brings you even closer to the environment. Wild camping and backpacking allow you to experience your surroundings in a way you just can’t if you’re just passing through on a day walk. Don’t worry if you’ve never even put up a tent before. Expert help is on hand, all the planning and logistics are taken care of for you, leaving you free to live the dream. Forget crowded campsites with noisy families and caravans, this is the real thing.
Overnighting and Short Breaks or Backpacking Trips
Our tent based adventures fall broadly in to two categories – wild camping adventures of 1 or 2 nights duration, ideal for first time campers and especially for family groups, or longer backpacking journeys, great for those wanting to really explore remote areas in detail. Long hours of daylight in the Scottish spring and summer make camping a pure joy, and chances of getting closer to the wildlife abound. Coming back to your cosy base camp already set up after an adventurous day out is very satisfying.
On The Isle of Skye some of our wild camping packages use boats to access remote areas. So we don’t have to carry anything! Popular destinations include the heart of the Cuillin at Loch Coruisk, or the tranquil and beautiful Isle of Canna, a great destination for seeing all kinds of wildlife.
Areas such as Letterewe and Fisherfield or Assynt and Coigach, both in the North West Highlands, are among the most remote and inaccessible in Europe. Taking several days under canvas here proves that trekking in Scotland can be every bit as rewarding as trekking in the Himalaya or the Peruvian Andes. In fact you’re likely to see less people, and of course there are no altitude issues to take into consideration.
Don’t worry about carrying huge loads – you may carry a bit more than a light day sack but careful planning means you’ll not be pushed into the ground by a huge pack. It’s even possible to have home comforts! If you’re fit enough to go walking you’re fit enough for wilderness camping.
If you don’t have your own camping gear we can provide everything you need, and all our equipment is top quality and light weight, or just bring your own along with your normal outdoor kit. We do our camp catering to a high quality. You can help plan the menus and, if you like, even do the washing up! Our accommodation in camp is normally on a twin sharing basis in large 3-person tents, although it may be possible to request a single tent, for which a surcharge may be payable – please ask in advance. Of course we wouldn’t ask you to share a tent with others of the opposite sex.
