We still have some space available on our Heart of the Cuillin, Skye Wild Camping Adventure that runs from Monday 25 till Tuesday 26 May. This trip gives a real flavour of adventure, camping out under the stars in a remote location amidst Skye’s Cuillin mountains. We depart from the village of Elgol in South Skye at around 10.30am on Monday 25th and will arrive back there around 5.15 pm on Tuesday 26th. Transfers from, and back to, the village of Broadford (the main village in south Skye) can be arranged for those travelling by public transport.
It’s perfect for family groups, first time wild campers, or those visiting the Highlands who want to have a really unforgettable couple of days in a totally natural and unspoiled environment. You could also combine it with some of our activities here on the Isle of Skye to make a longer trip! Unlike most wild camping or backpacking trips, on this one we don’t have to carry heavy loads for long distances as we use a boat service to transport all our food and gear. The requested album cannot be loaded at this time. We provide all the camping equipment you need, as well as organising all meals, so all you need is outdoor clothing and footwear. The equipment we use for our skye wild camping trips is of lightweight wilderness/mountain type which allows us to minimise our impact on this pristine environment, so if you’ve never wild camped before, as well as having an amazing adventure you’ll pick up some useful tips for planning your own low impact wilderness trips in the future.
There’s plenty of opportunity for seeing wildlife. On the boat we’ll visit the local seal colony which numbers around 200 animals. We often see other marine wildlife such as dolphins and porpoises, even basking sharks and whales! Above us is the territory of the Golden Eagle and White Tailed Sea Eagle, and in the surrounding mountains we often encounter wild Red Deer. The requested album cannot be loaded at this time. After arriving by boat on the first day, we set up our camp and then have plenty of time to explore the area before making a campfire meal whilst watching the stars come out. The following morning, after a hearty breakfast there’s more time to explore and maybe head up to one of the many wonderful viewpoints in the surrounding hills. There’s lots of opportunity for wild swimming in the lochs and rivers or at a perfect sheltered cove where the the curious seals come to watch you! We return to Elgol by bat later in the afternoon. Those who enjoy a good walk could always opt to walk back along the dramatic coastal path, accompanied by one of our qualified, experienced wilderness guides.
The cost of this 2 day Skye wild camping Adventure is £100 per adult, or £80 for persons under 18yrs (minimum age 8 yrs – under 18s must be accompanied by a parent or guardian). Our price includes use of all camping equipment and all meals/snacks whilst on the trip. It does not include boat fares (currently around £15 return) or accommodation before/ after the trip.
