The Isle of Skye’s magic is in the harmony of sea, sky, and mountain that make up this jewel of the Hebrides. There is, quite simply, nothing else like it. Although Skye is around 50 miles long and over 30 from east to west, nowhere is very far from the sea due to the indented nature of the coastline. The dramatic and ever-changing scenery of the Red and the Black Cuillin mountains provide a backdrop to what is certainly the grandest scrambling and climbing in Britain.
The Isle of Skye’s mountains are a perfect place for walkers who want to take things a little further – the terrain can be challenging and most outings into the hills will involve some scrambling, but with our intimate local knowledge there’s no need to worry that you’ll end up out of your depth. We can help you whatever your aspirations – be it some superb scrambling on our Isle of Skye Munro bagging programme, tackling the crests of the ridges with our Skye Ridges and Scrambles , backpacking across the Cuillin through the rugged wilderness, or a high mountain bivouac to catch the dawn over the Hebrides.
The Isle of Skye is not just about mountains though – there’s miles of unspoilt coastline, sea views from almost every point on the island, a wealth of wildlife and a vibrant Hebridean culture. There’s an almost limitless number of classic walks that follow good trails on gentler terrain. Our extremely popular Skye Classic Walking program aims to introduce you to the huge variety of riches on offer here, and our Walking with a Camera programme allows you to enjoy some outstandinding walking with extra time for watching wildlife, taking photos, and getting to know the place in greater detail.
Our Heart of the Cuillin Wild Camping Adventure allows you to experience the rugged grandeur of the mountains without breaking your back, by taking us into the centre of the mountains by boat – a great family adventure.
However you choose to spend your time with us here on Skye, one thing is for certain – you’ll want to come back!
Ian allowed me to have really special experience on Skye, something most tourists will not get with a tour bus, or even with a car and even with extensive research via the walk highlands website.
Thanks so much, I’m very happy that you enjoyed your time here with us!
Ian has showed us a marvellous time in the southern part of the Skye! He is very knowledgeable and engages with his clients very well. He gave us a few options to choose from, as the weather in Skye is ever-changing. The tour was perfectly tailored to our needs and fitness level. Ian knows every corner of Skye and gave us suggestions on restaurants and short walks from our hotel. There’s nothing better to be guided by a local who not only knows his way around, but also is very passionate about what he does! The tour has been the best part of our trip! Thank you, Ian =)
Thanks so much for your kind words – it was a pleasure to help you get to know our island home, A great day out in great company for me too!
Just echoing what others have said here, but it’s all true! Ian did a fantastic job of tailoring the day to perfectly match my interests, capabilities, and the weather (which did not start out looking very auspicious…), and he created a magical day on Skye. On top of that, he’s personable and a great companion. He was also very easy to contact and communicate with about setting up the tour. If I make it back to the island, I will definitely try to book with Mountain Freedom again!
Thanks so much for your positive comments and your company on a great day, despite the initially less than perfect weather!
