Tackle the iconic peaks of Assynt, such as Stac Pollaidh, Suilven and Quinag on a series of day walks, using a base in the lovely west coast fishing village of Ullapool. This area of North West Scotland has a landscape totally different from the rest of the highlands due to it’s very different geology. The Assynt mountains all have a unique character and rise in isolated splendour from the a moorland base studded with lochans and hummocky outcrops of Lewisian Gneiss- some of the oldest rocks on the planet. The astonishing nature of this landscape has been recognised by it’s designation as the North West Highlands Geopark and Assynt was recently voted as the number one geo location in the UK.
Our walks on this programme vary from 7-9 miles (11-14km) with ascents of up to 2,900 ft (900 metres). Trails are usually good but involve some sections that are steep or rough.
