The trip that gives you a true wilderness experience without toiling under a heavy pack! We take a boat from the tiny village of Elgol in southern Skye into Coruisk, inaccessible by road and surrounded by the towering peaks of the Cuillin on all sides, to enjoy an adventurous wild camping experience. Wildlife abounds and fantastic rugged scenery is around every corner. We supply all the camping equipment you need, and provide meals and hot drinks. Our accommodation on this Cuillin wild camping adventure is normally on a twin sharing basis in large 3-person tents, although it may be possible to request a single tent, for which a surcharge may be payable – please ask in advance. Your guide will make sure you have a remarkable adventure and great fun round the campfire in the evenings. Ideal for families and novice campers. Bring your swimming things! There’s lots to do in the Coruisk area and we can vary the program to suit your needs. Why not try the walk back to our departure point at Elgol, crossing the infamous “Bad Step”? Or maybe climb up onto Sgurr na Stri for the best view in Britain. Your experienced guide can help you choose in safety. Our Cuillin wild camping adventure is great for families and young people however we regret that we can only take under 18s if accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.
On demand, daily from April – October. 1 night/2 day or 2 night/3 day programs are available.
I’m thinking of booking this trip with some pals, a group of about 6 of us. I’m a keen hillwalker as are a couple of my mates but a couple of the others are less so. Can you offer this sort of trip over a few days with different options to suit everyone?
Yes Helen we can do that no problem, and in our experience it’s a great thing to do with mixed ability parties. We use the same camping spots and do plenty stuff together so it’s a nice sociable group, but go off and do different stuff too – some folk might want to do some of the more challenging peaks or scrambling routes in the area, while others want to explore at a lower level, go swimming, or pick less challenging objectives. We’d just put a programme together for you with 2 guides so you’ve got a choice of activities. Our “open group” dates often have people booking on them who want to do just that, so we assign 2 guides to those dates as a matter of course. If you need any more info just get in touch. Thanks.
This looks fantastic.
Maybe you’ll see me there one day..
It look a great area to wild camp.
I have added this page link to my site – hope thats ok.

It’s certainly a great area for wild camping, and a lot of it is virtually untrodden. Thanks for sharing
Just sent an email for next May. Very excited to do this! We will actually have a 6th – 18 yr old boy. We hike Colorado 14ers and higher trails so we are looking forward to trying some Scottish trails. My family can’t wait to camp on Skye.
Hi Shannon, Looking forward to seeing you in the spring time. I think there’s a message gone astray as we haven’t yet received an email from you, give us a shout to discuss your plans on info@mountainfreedom.co.uk
Thanks Ian for such a great time – you really looked after us well, and gave us just the right balance of challenge and fun. Looking forward to the next trip with you already!
You’re welcome Julia, hope to see you again soon!
This looks rather a good trip, please can you send us more details about the difficulty level of the hiking. Thanks
It all depends on who is in the group – We can tailor things to suit your particular group. If you contact us with some details about your party, we can offer some options.
