Learn essential safety skills for Scottish winter walking on a fun 1 or 2 day course based in the Glencoe area. We’ll cover topics such as weather and avalanche forecasts, evaluating snow conditions, movement and security on snow slopes, use of crampons and ice axes, self belay and self arrest, navigation, cold hazards and emergency procedures.
Your instructor will pick a venue that offers the best conditions for gaining new skills, so you’ll get the most out of your time. This could be in the Nevis range, the Mamores, or the Glencoe mountains, dependant on weather and snow conditions.
Snow on the hills of the Highlands transforms them into a much more challenging environment, and our Scottish winter walking courses will equip you to enjoy them with increased safety.
There is a huge choice of accommodation in the area and we offer a list of recommended providers to suit all budgets.
To enjoy this course, and Scottish winter walking in general, you’ll need to be reasonably well equipped. We can arrange hire of technical equipment such as ice axes and crampons, and also boots suitable for the fitting of crampons if you don’t have your own. You’ll need waterproof windproof clothing as well as warm stuff such as a hat and gloves and layered, warm, base/ mid layers. Don’t worry though – we send you an equipment list at the time of booking, are happy to discuss any issues with you and can usually provide stuff if you haven’t got your own. Just ask!
Prices from £50 per person per day. Discounts may be available for larger groups booking together.
