Discover this iconic island on a series of splendid varied day walks that make up one of our most popular programs. Distances range from 6-10 miles per day and all these walks are suitable for less experienced walkers. Stay with one of our recommended accommodation providers in Portree or Broadford and enjoy the company of a lively sociable group on one of our Skye walking tours. Join us for just a day or for a whole week, drop in and out, combining it with our other activities on Skye, or doing your own thing. We are one of the only operators to offer a program like this with guides who actually live on Skye. As such our local knowledge is absolutely second to none – it’s our pleasure to show you round our home and introduce you to our friends.
We choose our walks to suit the weather and the makeup of the group, but expect a mix of stunning coastal scenery, wildlife, dramatic mountain backdrops, history and culture, and above all, fun! Our walks range from 6- 10 miles(10-18km) in length with up to 1800ft (600m) of ascent, and are mainly on good paths, although sometimes with some rough or boggy ground. You’ll need to bring supportive footwear and outdoor clothing, including waterproofs.
Prices start from as little as £50 per person per day. We can also arrange transfers or help with your travel to join us from the major cities such as Glasgow, Edinburgh and Inverness. Contact us to discuss your plans.
We offer rolling departures based on a full 7 day program throughout the April – October season, so you can join a group whenever you like for as long as you like. Contact us to discuss your plans.
Do we need to book in advance for this or can we just contact you when we arrive on Skye and join a group?
Hi Holly, thanks for getting in touch. Although it’s possible to join one of our groups at short notice if we have space, we strongly recommend booking as far as possible in advance. Our walks are popular so there is often high demand, especially in the peak summer months. Also, we only have limited spaces – partly due to transport considerations and partly because we believe small groups are better, safer, and more sociable! If you contact us at short notice of course we’ll do our best to organise something for you, but it’s best to contact us before you arrive on Skye. As well as our Classic Walking programme we can also offer private hiking tours etc, and for these, get in touch as soon as you can to discuss your plans.

Hi Jerry, thanks for your interest in Mountain Freedom. I’ve sent you an email
Thanks so much, we had a great time, the guide was wonderful and the group was great fun. So much so that when we found out there was space, we booked an extra day!
My husband and I will be on the Isle of Skye September 23 and 24 and we love to hike, can handle challenging climbs (though not interested in rock climbing) – I would be interested in hearing more about options.
Hi Susan,
I’ll reply to you via email.
Thanks,
Ian
